Advice for applicants
- Don't give up your dreams
- Be positive
- Ask for help if you need it
I'm originally from Turkey and wanted to give something back to the community who had accepted me. A career as a firefighter is definitely a way to demonstrate care for others on a daily basis. My brother-in-law was already a firefighter and suggested that I join.
The recruitment process was difficult for me as English is not my first language, but the fire service is an inclusive employer and I was successful. I liked the fact that if I didn't know how to do something on a job, there was someone there that has seen and done it before. The knowledge and experience of the firefighters is amazing!
I love helping others in their time of need and also being a part of a fire department is like being a part of a large family. I like the teamwork that exists in the fire service. Everyone works together toward a common goal.
My family are very proud of what I have achieved so far and I am keen to progress in my career. I am working to achieve that by studying for professional exams with the support of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
