Your fire and rescue service
How your service can help
Firefighters do not just put out fires. There are lots of ways they support local people and businesses to keep themselves and their homes and premises safe. They can, for example:
- fit smoke alarms for people who are unable to do it themselves
- find the best escape route from properties
- review fire risk assessments for businesses and property owners
- advise anyone who is worried about a potential fire risk
- work with schools to raise awareness of fire safety
- provide road safety advice
- give young people skills, knowledge and positive experiences through youth engagement programmes such as Fire Cadets
In some cases, services offer smoke alarms to those who cannot afford them. Talk to your local service about what services they offer.
