Advice for applicants
“Put your mind to it and you certainly won’t regret it.”
I joined the fire service because I wanted to do something worthwhile and rewarding. I wanted to try to make a difference. The fire and rescue service ticked those boxes.
The recruitment process was very straightforward. Every stage was explained thoroughly and there was lots of support in place. I had to work on my fitness to pass the physical tests, but I thrived on this as a challenge and, before I knew it, I’d passed.
Both my roles require me to work as part of a team which I really enjoy. I love working with my dog and seeing the difference he makes to our investigations. I also love engaging with the public.
My friends and family can see the impact my role has in the community. They’re proud of what I do and what I’ve achieved.
I really enjoy what I do and hope I can continue in my role for a long time to come. It’s a pleasure to go to work and there’s a lot to be said for that.
I’d tell anyone considering a career in the fire service to go for it! Put your mind to it and you certainly won’t regret it.
