Your fire and rescue service

Test

The delivery of fire and rescue is managed locally but every fire and rescue service is overseen and governed by a fire and rescue authority.

The authority is responsible for:

  • setting the strategic and policy direction
  • setting a budget to fund delivery of that strategy and policy
  • ensuring that outcomes are being achieved in a way that is cost-effective, efficient and in line with legal requirements

Overall responsibility for the fire and rescue authority differs depending on where you live. For example, in some areas the Mayor is responsible, while in others it could be the County Council, the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner or a body made up of local councillors.
